Prompts for writing about literature

Explain how a character is acting and why you think the character is acting that way. What real-life people or events are you reminded of by characters or events in the story? Write about what would happen if you brought one of your characters to school or home for a day. What quality of which character strikes you as a good characteristic to develop within yourself over the years?

Prompts for writing about literature

For over seven years, I have been coming up with new ideas every week for The Write Prompts. Here, I do the same, only these are all starter or "continue on" writing prompts. They are a great way to get the juices flowing when you do not know where to start.

They are what I would call the first line or in some cases, the first paragraph of a potential story or novel. You, the writer, simply write or type the prompt at the top of your page and continue writing with your own words until you finish the story.

If you finish the thoughts listed below, you will have written short stories or novels, if you are so inspired. Rather than picking and choosing, I recommend you give yourself the challenge of working through each one.

The How The gist is simple: Get a piece of paper or open up a fresh project in your word processor and copy a prompt. After the ellipsis, keep writing whatever comes into your head. Be sure to highlight the writing prompt in some way so you know you started with a prompt when you review the piece in the future.
